The U24 Ladies, Captained by Eleanor de Kock, have once again returned to RSA with a medal, making all South African’s very proud.
The U24 Group consisted of 7 countries including South Africa; Argentina, Columbia, France, Great Britain, Netherlands and New Zealand. It was always going to be tough against teams like Columbia, France, GB and NZ, proven by the 47 minute game in the Semi-Finals against one of the toughest teams.. NZ.
The quarter finals saw RSA face Columbia who they, RSA, had dawn one game and won one game in the round robin stages. Beating them 3-1 put RSA into the semi-finals to face New Zealand. This was the game of all games, lasting 47 minutes with New Zealand scoring the sudden death goal 3 -2 forcing RSA to play in the finals for the 3/4th position.
The first time RSA met GB in the round robin stage they beat them quite convincingly by a 2 goal margin – 4 goals to 2. The second game saw GB much stronger this game ended in a draw; 3 all. However, under Head Coach Pamela Mackor and Assistant Coach Jean Bester, the U24 Ladies knew that if they kept their composure and put all their training and hard work into play they could win; final score 3 – 2 to RSA … bringing home the Bronze!
